Keeping Your Family Safe & Active

Sports and exercise enable us to stay in shape and develop coordination skills. In fact, over 30 million children play at least one sport, and 20% of Americans exercise every day. That said, sports-related injuries commonly happen when the body is required to move more, run farther, jump higher, and kick that ball out of bounds.

Before starting a new sport, some schools and organizations require a sports physical to evaluate a person’s fitness. At Rodgers Stein Chiropractic Center, we perform comprehensive sports physicals for adults and children to determine any potential mobility risks, keeping your family safe while engaging in physical activities.

Sports Physicals 101

A sports physical, or a pre-participation physical examination, is a wellness check to determine a person’s health and fitness. Some patients may have underlying issues that put them at greater risk of sustaining a sports-related injury.

We cater the evaluation to the specific sport you play and look for conditions that might make participation unsafe. Sports physicals can:

  • Evaluate your current health
  • Measure your physical fitness
  • Identify any current injuries
  • Identify conditions that increase your risk of injury

Upon reviewing your results, we can recommend how to engage in physical activities safely and prevent sports-related injuries.

What to Expect During a Sports Physical

We start your session by discussing your medical history to gather information such as:

  • Personal health history
  • Family medical history
  • Current concerns
  • Medications you take
  • Immunization records
  • Past hospitalizations or surgeries

Then, we’ll perform the physical exam tailored to which sport you play, but we will likely:

  • Measure your height and weight
  • Measure your blood pressure and pulse
  • Test your vision
  • Check your heart, lungs, and other functions
  • Check your joints, strength, flexibility, and posture

Apart from these tests, we may discuss your nutrition and any substances you use, such as alcohol or caffeine. Contact us to learn more about sports physicals or to book an appointment.
